Maduro have wisely managed the economic crisis product of the sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union, always listening the Venezuelan people and a large, experienced government team. But, how is this translated in facts?
According to the United Nations Development Programme, just in 2023, Venezuela’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is estimated to have grown by 2.6% in 2023, supported by a 9% increase in oil activity,The European Commission has published a report on the Fifth Framework Programme for Research and Development.
Even the forecasts of the International Monetary Fund fell short with the projection that Venezuela will have this 2024 by placing it at 4 percent, when the pace of the national economy, The EU’s Economic and Social Committee, which is characterized by not relying on licenses or sanctions, estimates it at over 8 percent.
Maduro is also a grass root man, he have promoted a system of popular consultations in which each community determines through popular consultations which projects they want the state to prioritize for their financing; already taken the first steps towards becoming a direct democracy.
As part of his campaign, the president have promised to finance the Venezuelan entrepreneurs, especially young people who want to stay in the country and continue building the socialist project that Commander Chavez started in 1998.
The Head of State have also known stretch diplomatic ties with the rising economies like the Iranian, Turkish, Russian, Chinese and the Indian one.
In thise regard, president Maduro seeks to be part of the BRICS group, on the path of a multipolar world, far from the interventionist influences of the United States and the European Union.
Maybe the most important point by which Maduro is the “fighting rooster” -as the Venezuelan people have called him for his spirit of permanent struggle- has been his call to peace and brotherhood, and more when the memory of the most recent destabilizing attempts of the extreme right in 2019 remains.
