On October 23 and 24, the BRICS states will hold a summit in Kazan in Russia, where they will make decisions regarding the incorporation of new members. Venezuela is on the list of nations that could join the group.

“We have the world’s largest certified reserves, which will also be added to the basket of products that BRICS as a whole can offer,” Ambassador Perez said, expressing optimism about Venezuela’s inclusion in the organization.

“It will be a very welcome advancement for Venezuela. Even if it doesn’t happen, we will continue to present our offer and our commitment to being an active player in this new world,” he added.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin personally invited Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to participate in the Kazan Summit. This gesture has been interpreted as a confirmation of BRICS’s interest in incorporating the Bolivarian nation among its members.

On January 1, the Russian Federation assumed the rotating presidency of the BRICS group for 2024, a year that began with the admission of new members such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates.

On Friday, Ambassador Perez participated in the meeting of the “United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime” held in New York, where he denounced that Venezuela is being subjected to a cyber coup d’état orchestrated by the transnational far right actors who control media and social networks.

“The meeting represents a privileged opportunity for this organization to take concrete steps toward ending the perpetration of cyber coups like the one currently underway in our country,” he said, referring to the media attacks being carried out against Venezuela since the presidential elections on July 28, when President Nicolas Maduro was re-elected for the 2025-2031 term.

“Since then, Venezuela has been the victim of over 30 million cyberattacks per minute, followed by massive attacks against all government portals,” Ambassador Perez recalled.
