Venezuela Rejects Hostile Attitudes of Guyana Regarding the Essequibo

Delcy Rodríguez reiterated that the Essequibo is from Venezuela and «this will be forever».

The executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, said on Friday that Venezuela repudiates the warlike zeal of the president of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, «by threatening the tranquility and peace» of the region.

According to a message posted on his social network account X, Rodriguez said that Ali stands as the Caribbean Zelensky”, also alluding to the president of Ukraine.

«Venezuela repudiates the warring zeal of Irfaan Ali, who stands as the Caribbean Zelensky by threatening the tranquility and peace of our region to venerate its American masters and the Exxon Mobil», he emphasized.

“The Esequibo is from Venezuela, so it will be forever,” said the vice president.

Rodriguez’s statement comes after the recent announcement of the Guyanese president about the increase in the military budget for the purchase of boats and planes with the support of their “partners” abroad.

The Guyanese government decided to increase the defense budget by $202 million, an increase of $95.8 million over 2023. This figure is the highest since that country’s independence in 1966.

On June 11, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, in a statement, insisted that “the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly rejects the illegal oil production licence granted by the Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to oil companies in the Stabroek Bloc, claiming to dispose of the energy resources in maritime areas without delimiting, being able to commit resources of Venezuela”.
