“The Kiev regime has staged a new large-scale provocation. They carry out indiscriminate shelling with various types of weapons, including missiles, against civilian structures, residential buildings, and ambulances,” he said during a meeting with his cabinet broadcast on television.
Once this meeting concludes, Putin will hold a meeting with the heads of the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, and the Federal Security Service (FSB). The Russian leader asked officials to provide prompt assistance to the residents of Kursk who have been affected by the enemy incursion.
“The situation in the region is under control,” said Kursk Governor Alexei Mironov, who estimated that thousands of civilians have been evacuated since Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that fighting to expel the Ukrainian troops continues for the second consecutive day.
“During the night, detachments of the Russian Armed Forces along with border guard units of the Federal Security Service continued crushing the Ukrainian army troops in Kursk,” the Russian authorities said, adding that the coordination between their troops, aviation, and heavy artillery prevented the Ukrainian invaders from penetrating deeply into Russian territory.
According to well-known Russian military blogger Rybar, the Ukrainian troops have fortified themselves in three localities in Kursk, with around 400 men having entered. Additionally, another two thousand Ukrainian soldiers are reportedly stationed at the border.
In March, Ukrainian forces also attempted to incursion into the Kursk region but were stopped by Russian soldiers, who inflicted over 100 casualties on the Ukrainian troops and destroyed six tanks.
