Palestine Calls on the International Court to Arrest Zionist Minister Bezalel Smotrich

The United Nations (UN) stressed this Friday that what the Israeli minister said constitutes a “war crime”.

The Palestinian government has requested the International Criminal Court to arrest Israel’s finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, after the official declared it «justified and moral» for Palestinians in Gaza to die of thirst and hunger.

In response, the United Nations (UN) stressed this Friday that what the Israeli minister said constitutes a “war crime”, adding that the violation is a collective punishment of all the population of Gaza.

«We condemn in the strongest possible terms such words, which incite hatred against innocent civilians», underlined in Geneva the spokesman of the UN Human Rights Office, Jeremy Laurence.

«Starving civilians as a method of making war is a war crime, as is the collective punishment of the Palestinian population. And the risk is that such a public statement may incite to commit other atrocities,» he stressed.

For the Israeli minister it was not enough with these statements and added that his country allowed the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza «because he has no other choice».

The Palestinian Chancellery called Smotrich’s statements “a flagrant violation of international law and human rights principles, as well as a flagrant challenge to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and its injunctive relief orders”.
