Journalist Murdered With Police Protection in Mexico

In 2022, Alejandro Martínez reported that two armed men tried to kill him at his family home.

Mexican journalist Alejandro Martínez Noguez was killed aboard a patrol just as he was traveling with two members of the Security Secretariat of the local government of Guanajuato.

Martínez was a communicator of the digital medium «El Hijo del Llanero Solititito» and had already suffered an attack at the end of November 2022, when armed men went to look for him at his home.

According to reports, Alejandro Martínez went to cover an accident in the municipality of Villagrán and when he returned to Celaya a van reached the police unit in which he was traveling and shot at the crew.

The officer who was driving took his partner, who was injured in the incident, and Alejandro Martínez to a hospital, but the reporter had already lost his life due to a gunshot wound to the head.

There has been no statement of claim as to whether the attack was against elements of the Security Secretariat in the town of Celaya or against the reporter.

The officers served as escorts for Alejandro and were part of the security measures that had been implemented after the attack he suffered at his home.
