In a statement, the security media office of the Joint Operations Command of Iraq reported the arrest of “five of those involved in this unlawful act”, referring to the attack three days ago on the air base located in Al Anbar province, in western Iraq, which hosts “advisers of the international coalition” led by Washington.
These arrests come after the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces ordered the formation of a joint committee of inquiry with the competent authorities and after carrying out various searches and hearing witness statements.
The action against the Ain el Asad base was claimed by Al Thawrayun, a small group with ties to the flagship of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, the powerful pro-Iranian militia Kataib Hizbullah.
