Head of the Russian Security Council Meets With the President of Iran

Sergei Shoigu also met with the head of the Iranian General Staff, Mohammad Bagheri.

Russian Security Council secretary Sergei Shoigu met with Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on Monday, according to official sources from both sides.

«The development of relations between Tehran and Moscow is one of the priorities of the Iranian foreign policy; it is necessary to accelerate the implementation of the agreements between the two countries», said Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the meeting.

“Russia is one of the countries that supports the Iranian nation in difficult times… The development of relations with this strategic partner is one of the priorities of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran… It is necessary to accelerate the implementation of the agreements concluded between the two countries”, quoted the IRNA news agency to the president.

Shoigu, who is the former Defense Minister of Moscow, held talks with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Ahmadian and will also meet with the head of the Iranian General Staff, Mohammad Bagheri.

The statement added that the talks in Tehran will cover a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation.

Various aspects of global and regional security will also be addressed.

Iran and Russia are close regional allies who have strengthened their bilateral ties in recent years amid mounting US threats.
