Gaza Strip: Palestinian Civil Defense Denounces Crisis and Israeli Attacks

Yesterday the aircraft attacked a UN school in the Nuseirat refugee camp and then a supposedly safe area for refugees near the southern town of Khan Yunis.

On Wednesday, the spokesman for the Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip, Mahmoud Basal, denounced the humanitarian crisis hitting the territory after nine months of Israeli attacks and condemned the latest shelling of refugee centers.

Speaking to the press, Basal accused the neighbouring army of preventing vegetables, fruit, frozen goods and basic materials, including cooking gas, from entering the north of the coastal enclave. On the situation in the north, he noted that “the crisis is further complicated by the lack of fuel for bakeries, whose doors are closed for the tenth consecutive day”.

He also warned of the paralysis of desalination plants for the same reason.He questioned the most recent Israeli raids on several areas of the Strip, which caused numerous casualties.

Dozens of people were killed or injured in both attacks, medical officials reported.

According to official figures, more than 38,700 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the current wave of regional violence began on 7 October last year, while another 89,000 were injured.
