Five New Mayors Opponents Express Support for President Nicolás Maduro Candidacy
The list of opposition mayors who decided to change their political stance and support the current president, Nicolás Maduro, totals 11.
Five mayors of the Venezuelan state of Trujillo declared themselves independent and expressed their support for the candidacy of the current president, Nicolás Maduro, as reported in a statement.

“Six days away from deciding the fate and future of Venezuela for the next six years, as mayors in office, we have meditated, reflected, He understood and came to the conclusion that the way for Venezuela is not violence, nor is it hatred, nor confrontation between Venezuelans”, they said in the text.
They also noted that “this July 28, again, these irresponsible elites want to impose their agenda of destabilization”, so “after long days of consultation between us, our families and our political teams, after a long reflection and responding only to our conscience we decided to break with the Venezuela Command and the policy of humiliation and imposition of María Corina Machado”, they assured.
“We have decided to break with those who have made the Venezuelan crisis a business; we have decided to break with those who need to see the blood of innocents shed so that they can continue to justify their monetary support and the international lobby”, they said.
The mayors Dilcia Rojas (municipality Campo Elías), Wilmer Delgado (municipality Monte Carmelo), Heriberto Materan Tapia (municipality Motatán), Francisco Aguilar (municipality Andrés Bello), Cervando Godoy (José Felipe Márquez Cañizales municipality of the state of Trujillo declare their independence and announce their support for the candidacy of Nicolas Maduro
In that sense, they declared to take the commitment of “supporting the candidacy of Nicolás Maduro Moros, by then, starting from the peaceful triumph of July 28” in order to “to open a new stage of institutional renewal, political coexistence, national reconciliation and peace”.
“It is from peace that we will change our reality, not about a river of blood or a mountain of dead; it is with dialogue, understanding and coexistence that we will return to Venezuelans their quality of life and their desire to continue dreaming of a better future”, the document concluded.

Previously, Juan Carlos Zamora, mayor of the municipality Tinaco, state Cojedes; Sulme Ávila, mayor of the municipality Juan Germán Roscio, state Guárico; Pedro Antonio Abreu, mayor of the municipality Rojas, state Barinas; Adrián Azuaje, mayor of the municipality Obispos, also of Barinas; Eduardo Negrete, of the municipality Samuel Darío Maldonado of the state Táchira; and Jesús Méndez, from the municipality of Píritu in the state of Anzoátegui, declared their support for the Chavista leader.
